As I understand ( and I can be wayyy wrong here) this was an interesting unit that would connect with your Sony unit
This was from a Fostex A-8 but I think its the same cover in all these models as they used all 1/4 inch tape
so maybe from a later model or they did not like the idea of mains through a micro switch
