Bentham's left hand rests on two books lying on a small wooden upon which are an inkwell, hat and gloves, with a curtain or drape behind. A chair is visible to the left as viewed. Boileau holds a furled umbrella in his right hand. Inscribed below the image: 'MAULL & Co. LONDON'. The reverse is variously inscribed: printed 'MAULL & Co. Photographers, 55, GRACECHURCH
