It was his first album in five years, following Crash Talk from 2019. The Los Angeles rapper, signed to Top Dawg Entertainment and a member of the Black Hippy collective, took an experimental direction with jazz influences, abrupt beat switches and layered productions. The track 'Blueslides' is a tribute to Mac Miller, who died in 2018 and was a friend of Q.
