Het album liet een groter, gitaar en pianogedreven rockgeluid horen. In My Place, The Scientist en Clocks behoorden tot de bekendste nummers van het album. Clocks won in 2004 de Grammy Award voor Record of the Year. Het album zorgde voor de definitieve internationale doorbraak van Coldplay.
