The history of the documentation centre

The new exhibition building is a result of an architectural competition arranged by The Danish Arts Foundation in 1994. The competition was won by architects from CUBO, Århus. The project was elaborated by Peter Dalsgaard, Bo Lautrup, LarsThiis and Ib Valdemar. The construction of the building began on March 1, 2000.

In contrast to the gun emplacement the documentation centre is an open house, which ? as a consequence of its long glass front - draws a line in the landscape. The documentation centre is placed as a rectangle at the slope just to the north of the gun emplacement. The centre has deliberately been built in some distance from the old gun emplacement. Only the old munition railway is connected to the centre and form an entrance to the inner of this.

The centre is thought out as a light, open and transperent house towards the landscape in contrast to the heavy and closed architecture of the bunker. The material used for the building is white concrete, which was poured at the site.
